The Second Workshop: Built to Last, Rebuilt with Purpose
August 4th, 2025 by Amanda Schumann
The old workshop is being renovated to serve as the second workshop at The Australian Valve Centre.

The old workshop has always been a place of grit and ingenuity. Over the years, it’s gathered layers of history—steel shavings on the floor, burn marks on the benches, and tools that have shaped countless projects. Now, as we begin its transformation into the second workshop, we’re doing things differently. We’re building with what we already have.
This renovation is rooted in sustainability. Instead of starting from scratch, we’re repurposing materials, reorganising existing equipment, and breathing new life into the bones of the space. Workbenches are being reinforced rather than replaced. Shelving is being reconfigured to suit new workflows. Even old steel offcuts are finding new uses in custom fixtures and tool mounts.
We’re upgrading where it counts—improving ventilation, adding energy-efficient lighting, and making the space safer and more functional—but always with an eye toward reuse. It’s about honouring the workshop’s past while preparing it for a future that’s more mindful, more efficient, and more sustainable.
The second workshop isn’t just a physical space—it’s a statement. That good tools deserve a second life. That old steel still has strength. And that thoughtful transformation can be just as powerful as starting fresh.
